Prom!

Prom is coming up for the high school down the street.

We love this time of year. I get a little excited reminiscing about my prom. Was it really that long ago?

The girls here at Pizazz! used to force a corsage on me every year. I always hated the old elastic wristband and the wires scratched my wrist.

Now?

These kids today don’t know how good they have it. (I feel like my father when I say this!)

The bracelets are so cool and the flowers are put on with a special glue instead of with wires.

Here’s two corsages we made a few weeks ago

Red rose corsage on the ‘runway’ bracelet

Doesn’t that red rose corsage have ‘rockstar’ written all over it?

White rose corsage on ‘special day’ bracelet

This was for a lady’s 90th birthday. I’m guessing she felt pretty awesome when she received it!

Go like us on facebook because I’m going to be adding more and more pictures of our corsages as prom season goes on!

How fresh are my flowers?

People often ask us how fresh the flowers are. We’re so lucky to have customers who care about quality!

We have a rule at Pizazz: If you wouldn’t give it to your best friend, it doesn’t leave the store.

While it seems like a simple creed, it makes all the difference in the quality of our products!

The reason we know that our flowers are so fresh is we go through our product very quickly. We are a busy shop and we have a rotation system that ensures product gets used in the order it was purchased. We know what to buy, how much of it to buy, and when to buy it.

We have fresh flower trucks stop 9 times a week (yes, I’m serious!) We purchase over 300 – 500 roses a in a normal week and we go through all of them. If we don’t use them all up (which is rare), we dry them and use them to make our little thanksgiving munchkin pumpkins.

Our things are fresh because we know that you’re giving a gift and it’s got to be awesome!

Here’s what you can do to help:

  1. Keep your arrangement watered
  2. Keep it away from drafts and heat
  3. Keep it away from fruit
  4. Keep it away from cigarette smoke and car exhaust.

I know the 80’s are back but….

The purpose of my blog is to keep you updated with the latest happenings in the floral industry.

I’ve gotten to know a lot of people in the floral industry over the last few years (thank you Facebook!). Cathy over at Sprout in Massachusetts has a fantastic blog. She puts it so eloquently:

“When there are so many fabulous wrist corsage bracelets, that are pretty enough to wear on their own as jewelry, why would you ever choose to have yours made on a granny panty elastic band?

Demand something better!
No more granny panty elastic bands for prom!”
She attached this picture to the caption
Can you spot the granny panty elastic band?? Yes, the 80’s are back, but let’s not take it too far, folks. With all the AMAZING options for corsages at Pizazz! Florals, why would you ever settle for the old school prom corsage?? (yikes!!! lol) Put an end to the granny panty wrist bands!
Awwwwkward. Let’s keep prom and graduation modern and cool! (Do the kids still say cool? Okay, if not, we’ll make it EPIC!) And if your date orders a corsage for you, don’t worry. We won’t let him go the granny panty route :o)

Ahh…Fall Flowers

Now that fall is here I can say that I officially love this season.

Part of it, I’m sure, had to do with the fact that I spent the last three months of my pregnancy in the hottest summer that I can remember. Bring on the 60 degree nights!

But most of it has to do with the colouring of fall. The bright yellows, oranges, reds and burgundies make such a lush pallette that I can’t resist the look.

As florists, we get requests all year long for “bright and cheery summer flowers” or “nice pastel spring tones,” but the season of “send a fall bouquet” only lasts for two months.

Let this beauty inspire you for fall! Cheer up someone’s day

Remembering a life in colour

I love bright sympathy pieces. I know it might seem counter-intuitive to select such a bright and cheery piece when you’re mourning the loss of a loved one, but I’m of the mindset that someone’s life was meant to be celebrated.

If the person you are remembering was a bright, happy person, why not set the tone of their life with flowers that match just that feeling?

Not your mama’s corsage

If you want a fun looking, fresh corsage for your prom or graduation, check out these cool new corsage bracelets!

When you’re done with the corsage you can actually remove it and keep the bracelet as jewelry. I found these and thought that they were the neatest thing. They sure beat that old itchy elastic band that’s been around since the 70’s.

What’s your favourite?

Chelsea Flower Show

I’m so inspired by the talent at the Chelsea Flower Show in England.

The brief was to create (from scratch) a parasol using only fresh material and it had to be carry-able.

If you enjoy truly amazing design, check this slideshow out:
