Princess Diana's Bouquet
The announcement of Prince William’s engagement is, of course, front page news. The fact that he proposed with his mother’s sapphire and diamond ring is beyond romantic.
As a florist, I cannot wait to see the wedding next year. The dress, the cake, and of course, the flowers.
Princess Diana’s bouquet was amazing. The construction would have been very time consuming as almost each bloom has to be wire and taped into place.
The bouquet, 42″ long and 15″ wide, was of a cascading shower design similar to those from Edwardian times. It set a trend for wedding bouquets which up to that point at been comparably small.
The flowers that comprised the bouquet were:
Odontoglossum Orchid (Royal Wedding)
Lily of the Valley
Earl Mountbatten Roses
Three bouquets were made, one for the practice the night before the wedding, the second was delivered to St. James’ Palace. The third was taken to Buckingham Palace on the day of the wedding and used for the formal photographs.
It is reported that it weighed approixmately 4-7 lbs.
Imagine carrying THAT around all day!
Next summer all the world will be waiting to see the gorgeous Kate Middleton walk down the aisle to meet her modern day prince! I can’t wait to see what she’ll be carrying in her hands.
